Serving Our Veterans
To meet the unique needs of our current and former military service members, MIL has developed a multi-pronged
approach to recruiting and supporting our veteran workforce. This strategy includes:
» Employing hiring practices that encourage veteran participation. One way MIL fosters this prong is by
having veteran representation at every level of the talent acquisition process—from employing recruiters
and HR personnel who are retired military personnel to hiring managers who have also served in uniform.
Veteran participation in the recruiting and hiring process ensures an understanding of the armed forces
experience and a sensitivity to veteran-centric concerns and needs post-service. This first-hand experience,
understanding, and sensitivity have led us to, for example, include skills and abilities in our job descriptions
that we know the military fosters in its forces. Focusing on these capabilities signals that MIL values the
experiences, proficiencies, and dedication that military service instills and encourages veteran applicants.
» Ensuring that veterans are fairly compensated for the unique experience, skillsets, and abilities they bring to
their MIL positions, especially those gained in uniform as many of these qualifications and capabilities are
vital to ongoing MIL initiatives. This is particularly true for staff hired to support the classified work MIL
performs daily on U.S. Defense Department and Navy contracts.
» Developing pathways for veterans to transition from military to MIL service successfully. This prong includes
MIL’s active participation in programs like Skillbridge and Hiring Our Heroes.
At MIL, we believe that every day should be Veterans Day. Our veteran workforce should always feel welcome,
valued, and supported—for the work they perform for MIL and its customers, and for the service and sacrifice they
and their families have made, and continue to make, to keep our Nation and its citizens safe and secure at home
and abroad.
Originally, Veterans Day was known as “Armistice Day,” which began to be celebrated on the one-
year anniversary of when the agreement to cease fire was made to end World War I.
