Golfing for a cause
Once again, MIL was a sponsor for the Eighth Annual Charleston Financial Service –
Combined Federal Campaign Golf Tournament held on Veteran’s Day, Friday, November
11, 2016, at the beautiful Oak Point Golf Course on Kiawah Island. Nearly $20K was
raised and donated to charities that make a difference in the community: Ronald
McDonald House Charities, Lowcountry Food Bank Backpack Buddies Program, The
Fisher House, and My Sister’s House.
MIL golfers included Marisa Daley, Jason Hannah, Joe Zanghi, Kyle Brooks, Rebecca
Helms, Patrick Holland, James Moore, Brian Williams, Karyn Kunzig, Kathy Foster,
Joel Evans, Sarah Ihme, and Daryl Danker. They were each proud to salute America’s
veterans and active military and to also support organizations who are so instrumental to
community members in need.
Hyattsville Zombie Run
On Oct. 1, 2016 Hyattsville Elementary School PTA organized its inaugural Hyattsville Zombie Run!, a healthy three-race fundraiser
that included a USATF certified 5K, a 1 mile kids challenge run, and a 1K family fun run. MIL was the premiere sponsor and the $30K
raised will help enhance educational opportunities at the school through field trips, teacher’s training, school-wide computer education,
field day support, as well as items such as back packs, coats, school and art supplies.
Despite the rainy weather, over 475 runners participated. The event was held in conjunction with the City of Hyattsville and benefited
from the support of over 30 sponsors and 100 volunteers from around the community. As the event was held in October, the organizers
decided to combine a 5K fundraiser with some costume fun and encouraged the racers to show up as their best zombie.
MIL’s Carter Raines served as Course Manager for the Hyattsville Zombie Run on Race Day. His job was to make sure the race course
stayed safe for all three of our races. He managed a team of course marshals whose job was to keep the race course free of traffic, help
direct vehicles around the course, open up streets as the race finished, and coordinate with police and other safety officials to meet the
needs of our racers.
MIL is proud to support this event and others in the communities in which we live and work!
