Compliance: Work from Home
(WFH) Guidance
The Occupational Safety and Health Act and similar state occupational safety
and health laws obligate employers to provide a workplace that is free from
recognized hazards likely to cause harm, even when working from home.
An injury or illness that occurs while an employee is working at home is con-
sidered work-related if it directly relates to the performance of work and his/her
job, rather than to performance of activities in the general home environment
or setting. This includes work completed in a home office or another portion of
the home.
Managers should encourage employees to review their work area and ensure
it is free from tripping, electrical, or other hazards that might pose a danger to
employees. OSHA states all employers must track all work-related injury and
illness claims even if the employee is working in a home office.
Final Note: Please remind all your employees to immediately report any
work-related injuries or illness to supervision.

Best Practices for Managing Remotely
When COVID hit last year, it was the first opportunity for many supervisors
to manage remotely. There was no time to prep, plan, or train. One day we
were in the office, the next day we were working from home and dealing with
new technology and our new virtual environment. As a supervisor, you have
a huge impact on the telework environment. The relationship an employee
has with his or her manager ranks very high among all the variables that
impact the team member’s engagement and satisfaction at work.
