become important in our lives. So, as we go along, I will discuss a little history of the
times and places when and where our ancestors lived.
Our FOY family history is an interesting history. I feel sure you will find it worth
while to read about the life and times of Foys Who Came To Texas.
For those of you who have not read Volume One, most of the basic and factual
information relating to our FOY ancestors in that volume will be repeated in this
volume but you might be interested in some of the matters discussed in Volume One
that are not repeated in this volume.
In Volume One you will also find chapters which describe the religious persecutions
which occurred in France in the 1600s and which caused thousands of Huguenots to
flee France to parts all over the world. There is some information which will later be
discussed to indicate the FOYs who came to America, the FOYs from whom we
descend, were originally Huguenots who fled France to England to America during
those times of political persecution.
There are also chapters in Volume One which describe the political and economic
times in the world of the 1600s which was the setting for thousands to leave the old
world and come to the new world under conditions which are hard to imagine.
For FOYs to have come to Texas, they had to have come from someplace else. For
some FOYs the starting place was indeed Europe and there are some respectable
records that indicate when and where they landed in the New World but we can not
trace our relationship back to those FOYs. For the beginnings of the FOYs from
whom the Cisco Clan descends, for the purposes of this volume, we will begin in
Baltimore County, Maryland with a man named THOMAS FOY and, as you will see,
there are some researchers who even disagree with him as a starting point for our
pedigree.
CHAPTER TITLES IN VOLUME ONE:

Chapter One THEY HAD TO CALL US SOMETHING; a discussion of the
evolution and origin of surnames.
