Misery | noun | a state or feeling of great physical or mental distress or discomfort Gratitude | noun | the state of being thankful: THANKFULNESS It is now May 2020, and I don’t think there is any way of expressing our feelings about everything that has been happening so far in a clear, concise manner. This year has been full of surprises, but they came in the form of discomfort. The biggest surprise came in the form of a pandemic, taking away the last of whatever we had left with each other. Staying at home feels miserable, but somehow also leaves a lesson: a lesson of gratitude. Now that we’re at home, away from so many things and people we got used to at some point in life, we understand the concept of gratitude. Just like people say, you always crave what you don’t have and never understand the real value of a moment or a person until it’s gone. From the time we were just middle schoolers running around in the playground during lunchtime to seniors that instead crammed their homework assignments. From seeing our friends off as they chose a different path to bid farewell to an angel who left the world too soon. From being crazy kids that joked around to being even crazier adults, we’ve grown. Not just physically, but also emotionally and mentally. We’ve matured in many aspects of life, and we all faced a turning point together. We always felt, “our grade is so unique and so much more different than any other grade. We’re like, the best!” Some will think otherwise, and some will agree. But we are unique, 2020.
