            Advantages of Reading

As an intellectual thing, a book is prototypically a composition of such great length that it takes a
considerable investment of time to compose and a still considerable, though not so extensive,
investment of time to browse. This sense of publication has a restricted and an unrestricted sense.
In the restricted sense, a book is a self-sufficient section or part of a longer composition, a usage
that reflects the fact that, in antiquity, long works had to be written on several scrolls, and every
scroll had to be identified from the book it included. So, for instance, each part of Aristotles Physics
is called a book. From the unrestricted sense, a publication is the compositional whole of which
such sections, whether called books or chapters or parts, are parts.

The academic material in a physical publication does not need to be a makeup, nor be called a
book. Books can consist only of drawings, engravings, or photographs, or such matters as
crossword puzzles or cut-out dolls. In a physical book, the pages may be left blank or may contain
an abstract group of outlines as service for continuing entrances, e.g., an account book, an
appointment book, an autograph book, a notebook, a journal, or a sketchbook. Some bodily books
are created with pages thick and sturdy enough to encourage other physical items, like a
scrapbook or picture album. Books may be distributed in digital form as e-books and other formats.

Although in normal academic parlance a monograph is known to be a professional academic work,
rather than a reference work on a single scholarly topic, in library and information science
monograph describes more broadly any non-serial publication complete in one volume (book) or a
finite number of volumes (a novel like Prousts seven-volume In Search of Lost Time), in contrast to
sequential books like a magazine, journal, or newspaper. A passionate reader or reader of novels
is a bibliophile or colloquially,"bookworm". Novels are also sold everywhere. Books may also be
borrowed from libraries. Google has estimated that as of 2010, roughly 130,000,000 distinct titles
had been released. In some wealthier countries, the sale of printed books has decreased because
of the increased use of e-books.

In the 2000s, due to the rise in availability of affordable handheld computing devices, the chance to
share texts via digital means became an attractive alternative for media publishers. Thus, the"e-
book" was made. The term e-book is a contraction of"electronic book"; it pertains to some book-
length publication in electronic form. An e-book is generally made accessible through the internet,
but also on CD-ROM and other forms. E-Books might be read either using a computing device with
an LED display such as a conventional computer, a smartphone or a tablet computer; or by way of
a portable e-ink screen device called an e-book reader, such as the Sony Reader, Barnes & Noble
Nook, Kobo eReader, or the Amazon Kindle. E-book readers try to mimic the experience of reading
a print publication by employing this technology, because the screens onto e-book readers are
            much less reflective.
