          TRUELLE COMMEMORATIVE EN ARGENT ET IVOIRE

          Le  manche  est  en  ivoire.  La  partie  pointue  est  en  argent,  les  bords  sont
          soulignés de deux dragons sinueux et d'une tête de dragon en relief aux yeux
          incrustés. Le texte suivant est gravé :

          A  golden  trowel  of  this  type  was  used  in  the  ceremony  of  the  laying  the
          foundation stone of the University of Hongkong on March 16th 1910 by the
          Governor of Hong Kong Sir Frederick Lugard. The building was erected with
          founds donated by Sir Hormusjee Narojee Mody. The golden trowel is now
          in  the  Hong  Kong  University  Museum.  In  remembrance  of  the  founding  of
          the  University  of  Hong  Kong  two  silver  trowels  were  presented  during  the
          ceremony to the Viceroys of the two Guangs (Guangdong and Guangxi) and
          Two  Jiangs  (Jiangsu  and  Zhejiang)  Zhang  Renjun  and  Yuan  Shuxun.  One
          of  these  trowels  is  presented  here.  This  commemorative  trowel  revokes  a
          ceremony, that “marks an epoch in the annals of Hong Kong as well as in the
          history of all South-China.” (Hong Kong Telegraph, 17 March 1910).
