A PAINTING OF A STUPA
WITH USHNISHAVIJAYA
NEPAL, 19TH CENTURY

Finely detailed, depicting a large white
stupa with the white, multi-armed goddess
of long life, Ushnishavijaya at center, the
fve Pancha Raksha Goddesses below, the
stupa fanked on either side by four wrathful
protector’s backed by faming aureoles, with
fve worldly gods in the outer left and right
registers, and two forms of Manjushri seated
above, surrounded by apsaras and the fve
symbolic Buddhas seated in the top register,
all set amidst a mountainous and cloud-flled
landscape with a cascading river, a chariot
ritual procession along the bottom.
