               and Qianlong emperors also followed the footsteps
                                                       ౩ℱ⊺Ɽ⡠㚒ណໃࢣӬ㬷ǯᷠ┡ᅠ᳖ࢣⶬڔ⊺㚒ណໃࢣӬ㬷ǯݯ㿩⢷ཌ
               of Kangxi and paid frequent visits to Tanzhe Temple.
                                                       ⶬڔ㿳ᶜ㞖ໃᐦᝲཌӬࠗǯ੓⃹ຽढ़ࢣݰഌ㯳࠺ࢣ卿ڔ㢶㚒೅ຽࢣՀ㬷卿
               It is recorded that the Qianlong Emperor visited the
                                                       ݯᑱྒྷԆ㿩⢷ཌǮ⟾⡚ཌكڔ㢶㚒೅ຽᓔེᓔཌ卿प㪪ٜ∪Ꮴᓔ㞜ᒈࡷ
               temple for the first time in the ninth year of his reign   ᪩᫉ǯᙻទᝲՀࢦӬᚚӮ৅㲛㯅⺖ណৌཆ⊺ᇑ䵹ᶜ஠㬪ໃᆭᶜ㚒ᇵ⚁ᆽ
               (1744), and offered a number of gifts including silver   Ꮁࢣ᧙Ӭ։卿㿳ᶜ஠㞖ໃᆭᶜ㚒ሻ୬᲼ሻ୬᲼៧ࢣ᧙Ӭ։卿ẇ┡ᅠ᳖ࢣ
               taels, plaques, calligraphy and a five-piece enamel   ᧙Ӭ։卿㿳ᶜ஠㞖ໃᆭᶜഀ䂆㚒⃒ᚢ᳖ಗࢣ᧙Ӭ։卿ᑥ㙊Ւഎ⏍⫽ӽھ
               garniture set. The Emperor also composed a poem in   १ㇺ卿ഠ᚜ᾅ᧙ޢڔ᪩᫉ǯᙻݨᝲՀࢦᚚᡊ৿㩛⏇⽛ཆڔᇑ㢶㚒೅ຽࢣ

               the same year to commemorate his first visit to the
                                                       䂆ࢣ卿୨㬷㢶㚒೅ຽࢣӬ㬷卿㢶㚒೅ຽཌՀࠗ卿ᓔེӬ։ᑥ㑊ྻ㫡ཀ໫
               temple, entitled ‘First Visit to Tanzhe Yunxiu Temple

               on the First Day of Second Month’, as recorded

               in juan 20 of Yuzhishi chuji (Collection of Imperial
                                                       Ὅℒᝳڮ卿ங᱕ൈὸᱡ⎏Գ㪏ᇙㅳ㉼ԋ卿㉃㢙ᝳԳ㪏⎑ႽᙻԳ㪏Ԭჺ✄
               Poems by Emperor Gaozong).

               So when was the current incense stand made? One
                                                       ⊐᫉㊯ᚺԳ㪏⎑ႽᙻԳ㪏Ԭჺ卿Ӷۣউռ㙁㗤⽔ἃᷱ᠒ཀㅳהप♎ࢣ⪩卿
               possibility is Qianlong ninth year, together with the   㚍⯞ശ⎏㐋㉼Ӭ㲛ǯ㚃፳⎏ᛓ卿㙁㗤⽔ᨯᡪԋ᮱ᝳㅳה⇈⇶Ն؊⎏㉃㖊ǯ
               enamel garniture set gifted by the Emperor to the
                                                       㚣㿢㪀㉑ஙᷱ᠒ཀ⎏Ꮐ㞖ᆭᶜ஋޸ࣽᛓբ㿢ᛞ٣ㅳה⎏॰厒ᡜᗌႡ⣌᠝
               temple. However, if we examine the stand in person,
                                                       㨙ߪ⎏ឬᙠߎ៝ᝳՀ♎ज⬒卿ݯӬ卿Գ㪏ԬჺԳ㪏⎑Ⴝ㐃㐁ᷱ᠒ཀ⇈⇶
               one will notice the dragon motif is very similar to
                                                       Ն؊ᛞ㙄ऱՆٖ޸Ӭ㑌㐃㐁ǯݯՀ卿Ꮐ㞖ᆭᶜ޸Ⴁஙᷱ᠒ཀ卿Գ㪏ۣۣ
               dragons depicted on Kangxi-period works, especially   㐃㐁Ի⇈⇶Ն؊ǯ㘺ۣۣᛓߎ៝卿㚍ᝳᇅᝤᴽ┱⎏㏱ᙠ߅→ǯ㚣㿢卿Ꮁ
               the rendition of the eyes, mouth, body and claws. On   ٛᇖǸ޸ǹទ㕇߅⎉卿Ԯ⬒ᙷ໸໦ഌ⯎⎏ㅳהᛞ㧿ǯǸ޸ǹ⎏䂆⡠ᆨ㎜
               the other hand, the cloud scroll motifs on the stand   ⯝᧐ᴽ⎏ᄮᾭង䂆⡠㬳჎ᓞ㘆卿⁞ߣᛓ㯔㛑⎏␓␩Ǯ૤㛑⎏㖥ᅃսࣿ䂆
                                                       ⎏㕑㵲Ǯ‣⎏ߴ⊺卿⩧㫡⡠⯝㫇᫈ង⢵⥫৅⯝ᶜ଍ӳ⎏㫡⡠㘆ַ卿Ӷᛓ
               are stylistically closer to clouds seen on Yongzheng
                                                       ݱ௛⎏ᄮᾭង⎏ភ㫡⡠卿⩧ᛓリ㫡᱁᭢⯺⎏᱁㫡⡠ǯᏒսᇖǸ޸ǹទ㕇
               textiles and lacquers, and differ from the ruyi-shaped
                                                       ⎏ㅛ㱈⡠᧙卿ഌ⯎जսཆݯᙷ໸ἃᄮᾭߪ㫇᫈ჺ㧿⎏ۊكǯݻᇖप♎
               cloud motifs more commonly seen on Kangxi art.
                                                       ᙔ℣㉃㖊⣐भߢᙷ卿Ꮐ㞖ᆭᶜ㫡䂆⡠޸जսߝ᫊⊤໸ἃᄮᾭՀࢦՆჺ
               Hence stylistically one can date this piece to the   卻    卼ߪԳ㪏Ԭჺ卻    卼Ԡ㧿⎏ה৅ǯ
               Kangxi to Yongzheng period. Taking palace records
               into account, we can deduce that the piece was      㪀ᜆ厍Ƕ㉃ᮅ⼖᫋㙊ᙲ߅க⎏ࢶ໬Ⅷ㏟ᶜ଍Ƿ卿Ƕᙔ⁒Ƿ     ჺ   ឆǯ
                                                          㪀ሉ✙厍Ƕᮅ㩽೽ᳰ໬ತ᳖↚➯౗Ƿ卿ǶὍ㢻ᙔࢷǷ     ჺ✄   ឆǯ
               probably made between 1686, when the Kangxi      ྒྷែ⏥ࢷ⁒㱦厍Ƕ⎉ᓒᚺប᨞ತ⡕༰Ƿ卿Ƕᙔ⁒Ƿ     ჺ✄   ឆǯ
                                                          ℳӽㆫ厍Ƕ㶊㱈㢙㈛㊯Ƿ卿ᙔ⁒߅‸▘卿     ჺ‸卿㮰   ǯ
               Emperor first visited Tanzhe Temple, and 1743, when      ℳӽㆫ厍Ƕ㶊㱈㢙㈛㊯Ƿ卿ᙔ⁒߅‸▘卿     ჺ‸卿㮰    ǯ
                                                          ᆌ㫡ṗⶬ厍Ƕᷱ᠒ཀ┐㉃Ƿ卿ԋஇᙔट߅‸▘卿     ჺ   ᝲ࢈՗卿㮰   ǯ
               the Qianlong Emperor gifted the temple with an      ऱ
