A HUANGHUALI SCROLL BOX AND COVER Intricately carved with elaborate designs of chilong and yi, the present
18th century box was likely produced for use by a high-ranking member of the Qing
The rectangular cover exquisitely carved on each side with writhing Court or scholar-official elite. Scroll boxes bearing a similar form as the
archaistic chilong amidst scrolling clouds and auspicious lingzhi, the present example were favoured by the Qianlong emperor to preserve
base with two scroll supports in the form of chilong with curved backs, his own poems and essays.
