A GILT COPPER ALLOY PLAQUE OF AN OFFERING GODDESS
DENSATIL, CENTRAL TIBET, 14TH CENTURY
Himalayan Art Resources item no.4507
25 cm (9 7/8 in.) high
HKD200,000 - 250,000
丹薩替 藏中 十四世紀 銅鎏金供養天女像
Sculptural images from Densatil are known for their sophisticated jewelry and
Nepalese-inspired rounded physiognomy, as seen in this beautiful, four-armed
offering goddess. Figural plaques such as the present work would have been
attached to a larger rectangular panel, joined by three other offering goddesses,
and would have appeared on the fifth tier of a tashi gomang stupa (working top to
bottom). While some of these goddesses are easily detached from their panels,
other surviving panels have four goddesses cast as a single piece, revealing a
range of techniques used for making different stupas.
