The thinly sectioned plaques carved from stone of mottled, cloudy 2075
sea-foam green, intricately gilded to one side to depict elaborate A JADE CARVING OF A RECUMBENT WATER BUFFALO
riverside vistas and reversed by bird and flower vignettes featuring Qing dynasty
verdant and gnarled seasonal flora. Posed with its horned head turned toward its left side, the tail
10in (25.4cm) diameter delicately line incised, the four hooves and legs delineated in high relief
