A THREE-CASE LACQUER INRO OGAWA HARITSU (1663-1747)

Lacquered and inlaid with Hotei seated on his treasure sack and Edo period (1615-1868), 18th century
holding a staff, in e-nashiji with outlines in pewter and gold lacquer, In the form of a Chinese rectangular ink-cake carved on the edges
the reverse inscribed with the signature Sesshu and with the seal with simulated chips, carved on one side with characters Horodai
Toyo in gold and red togidashi maki-e, and the interior cases nashiji (Precious Dew Tower) in a central reserve surrounded by a frieze of
2 1/2in (6.3cm) high ancient musical instruments and other motifs, on the other side with
a ceremonial vessel known in Chinese as tanting, the interior cases

The signature and seal refer to Sesshu Toyo (1420-1506), the great
