The brush pot is carved in varying reliefs with a continuous scene
depicting a scholar reclining against a pine tree, approached by an 展覽::

a pavilion on top. The white stone has a pale greenish tinge with
some russet inclusions. 本件玉雕筆筒屬「畫意」玉器。此類玉雕包括插屏、山子、筆筒等型制，

The brush pot belongs to a group of ‘pictorial style’ jade carvings which have
similar visual effect as paintings. See a Qing dynasty white jade brush pot
in the Palace Museum, Beijing, depicting an scholar sitting in a pavilion,
illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum,
Jadeware (III), Hong Kong, 1995 , no.167; a Qianlong period spinach green
jade brush pot depicting the seven sages of bamboo grove, also in the
Palace Museum Beijing, ibid, no. 170.
