Late Qing Dynasty, gilt Shendetang mark
The narrow waisted neck and rounded shoulders tapering to a The Shendetang, or Hall of Prudent Virtue, has been identified as a Hall
recessed base, covered with a bright iron-red ground lavishly gilt with at the western end of the Jiuzhouqingyan Palace, or Palace of Peace

US$26,000 - 39,000 Amongst the Shendetang group of wares, the present lot is very
unusual. The style of the gilding on the bright red ground suggests
清晚期 珊瑚紅地描金纏枝蓮紋梅瓶 描金「慎德堂製」楷書款 that it is a rare example from the Guangxu rather than the Daoguang
period, and furthermore it has a gilt rather than an iron-red mark: in the
Provenance 來源: late Qing dynasty text Taoya (Refinements of Pottery), vol.II, p.1, such
Sotheby’s London, 15 December 1987, lot 172 (one of a pair) a gilt mark is noted as being ‘occasional’.

慎德堂為圓明園內的一組建築,位於九州清晏的西面,於道光十一
年(1831年)落成,請詳閱M.Wilson著,《Rare Marks on Chinese
Ceramics》,倫敦,1998年,頁36。耿寶昌先生曾記錄過三十四種
「慎德堂製」款,大部份繪在道光瓷器上,當中也包括一件光緒時期
紅釉描金碗,見《明清瓷器鑒定》,香港,1993年,頁385至386。
《陶雅》記載:「慎德堂瓷器皆抹紅楷款,亦有金款者。」從目前傳
世品中慎德堂瓷器大部份為紅彩款,描金款非常少見,且此瓶上的描
金裝飾更具光緒風格,可見此瓶之罕有。
