           A ‘TIANQI’ LACQUER ‘BIRD AND
           FLOWER’ STAND
           17TH CENTURY

           the lobed hexafoil top supported on a pierced waist and
           cusped apron extending onto six cabriole scroll legs, the top
           detailed in polychrome lacquer with a pheasant perched on
           gnarled leafy branches bearing large peony blossoms issuing
           from craggy rockwork, with a stem of narcissus beside,
           framed by a border of stylised lotus and scrolls, the apron and
           legs decorated with curling grapevines laden with fruits and
           foliage, all reserved on a red ground, the base lacquered black,
           Japanese wood box
