Born to a family of physicians, Li Shizhen (1518-
1593) started studying medicine at a young age
and became one of the most renowned doctors in
Chinese history. He compiled the infuential and
encyclopedic Bencao gangmu (Compendium of Materia
Medica), published in Nanjing in 1593 and reprinted
at least eight times during the seventeenth century.
Li Shizhen and his text were so widely known that
he and the knowledge he accumulated provided
inspiration for many artists. Here Mi Gengyun
depicts Li Shizhen gathering herbs for medicinal use.

This lot consists of two paintings.

立冬後糜耕雲寫於懷風堂。
