                   Three years later, in April 1994, the Museum opened the Florence and

                   Herbert Irving Galleries for South and Southeast Asian Art, giving the
                                                                                 Ⱄ㺮☐⬠埻䞼䨞䘬㪲⦩㔯䌣ˤ㫸暚ằ⃟⛐
                   Metropolitan the most extensive display space for these arts anywhere
                                                                                 㺮☐㕡朊䘬ㆸ⯙炻⽆őũŪŭŪűűŦġ ťŦġ ŎŰůŵŦţŦŭŭŰ
                   outside Asia. Created with the curatorial guidance of Martin Lerner and
                                                                                 㑘⮓䘬⇵妨ᷕ⼊⭡娚㓞啷䁢ˬ大㕡ᶾ䓴塷
                   Steven Kossak, this suite of eighteen galleries covering 13,500 square feet
                                                                                 朊㚨‹↢ˣ㚨ℐ朊䘬Ṇ㳚㺮☐㓞啷˭⎗
                   presents more than 800 works of art, including a number of Irving gifts.   夳ˤ
                   Then in 1997, reß ecting their abiding interest in Chinese art, the Irvings
                                                                                 ᶱ⸜ᷳ⼴炻⌛IJĺĺĵ⸜ĵ㚰炻⣏悥㚫⌂䈑棐
                   supported the opening of the Florence and Herbert Irving Galleries for
                                                                                 䘬ἃ伭ΐ㕗冯崓ỗ䈡ɀ㫸暚⋿Ṇ冯㜙⋿Ṇ
                   Chinese Decorative Arts—an entirely new third-ß oor display space, designed
                                                                                 喅埻棐㬋⺷攳ⷽ炻Ẍ㛔净㑩㚱Ṇ㳚⛘⋨ẍ
                   under the direction of senior curator James C. Y. Watt, that added 3,000
                                                                                 ⢾㚨漸⣏䘬喅埻⯽奥䨢攻ˤ㬌⯽奥䨢攻
                   square feet to the Asian Wing. These galleries feature discrete spaces for the
