UNSHOKUDŌ 雲色堂
A tetsubin (iron teapot for sencha) Japan, Meiji era (1868–1912),
late 19th century
Cast in globular form with a stepped rim, the body finished in a
rough ishime (stone-texture) surface and decorated with a stand of
blossoming chrysanthemums and butterflies in gold and silver inlay,
the handle decorated with bamboo, the bronze lid applied with a
silver chrysanthemum finial, signed on the underside Unshokudō
tsukuru 雲色堂造 (Made by Unshokudō)

The Unshokudō workshop in Kyoto originally specialized in casting
temple bells but was motivated by the growing popularity of sencha
to turn to tea-kettle production.
