FROM THE COLLECTION OF SINGAPORE BAI HONG LOU MASTER TAN KENG CHEOW (CHEN JINGZHAO, 1907–1972)
     新加坡百虹樓主人陳景昭先生私人收藏 (LOTS 1360-1369)

     Mr. Tan Keng Cheow (1907-1972), born in                                                        1360
     Guangdong, graduated with a law degree
     from Shanghai Public Jinan University and                                 1360
     lectured in colleges and universities including
     Guangzhou University. He later moved to                                   HUANG BINHONG (1864-1955)
     Singapore where he contributed further to
     education as the principal of Tuan Mong                                   Retreat in the Mountain
     High School and lectured in Chung Cheng

     famous painters including Huang Binhong 陳景昭先生
     and Ye Gongchuo who enlightened him tremendously. It also provided
     him with a chance to appreciate great works of art.

     Mr. Tan was a distinguished educator, artist and art collector. He was
     the honorary chairman of the Chinese Pen Calligraphy Institution,
     superintendent of the Society of Chinese Artists and influential in the
     Chinese Calligraphy Society of Singapore. A noted collector of Huang
     Binhong’s work, Mr. Tan’s vast collection of Huang’s paintings earned
     his residence the name Bai Hong Lou (Hundred Huang’s Building) and
     The Studio of Three Hundred Paintings. Of the three Huang Binhong
     paintings illustrated in Michael Sullivan’s Chinese Art in the Twentieth
     Century published in 1959, one came from the collection of Mr.Tan – a
     testimony to the importance of his collection.

     陳景昭(1907-1972),原籍廣東省潮安縣義龍鄉,早年畢業於上
     海國立暨南大學,獲法學士學位,歷任包括廣州大學等多間大學講
     師。後移居新加坡,繼續服務教育事業,出任端蒙中學校長,及中
     正中學總校教席。

     陳先生之父為嶺東金石書畫耆宿陳兆五先生,家學淵源,於書畫夙
     具心得。當他旅學滬上時,課餘復從名家黃賓虹、葉恭綽,深得指
     授,博覽名家所藏古今名迹,造詣湛深。

     陳景昭是一位成功的教育家,曾為中國鋼筆書法研究所名譽所長,
     及中華美術研究會監察主任;在藝術事業上是一位特出的藝術家,
     收藏家。其寓所稱“百虹樓”,乃因收藏其師黃賓虹達百幅以上,
     又稱“三百畫齋”。在蘇立文於1959年出版的《20世紀中國藝術與
     藝術家》中,三幅黃賓虹作品其一即出自陳景昭的收藏,並刊登於
     書中內頁,其藏品之精從中可見一斑。

     本收藏另有九件中國近現代畫將於2017年11月27日舉行的丹青薈
     萃—中國書畫網上拍賣呈現。(拍品編號1665-1673)
