NOTE:

The recipient of this painting is the renowned sculptor and art
historian Wang Ziyun (1897-1990). Born in Xuzhou, Jiangsu, he
studied in France in 1931, and returned to China to teach at the
Hangzhou National Art College. One of his greatest achievements was
setting up the Northwest Art and Cultural Relics Exploration Mission
to the Northwest in the 1940s. Since Wu Guanzhong was a student at
the Hangzhou National Art College, he addressed Wang as “teacher”
in the letter.
註：上款人為著名雕塑家、中國美術史家、現代美術運動先驅王子雲
（1897-1990）。生於江蘇省徐州府蕭縣，1931年赴法國留學。1937
年回國任國立杭州藝專教授。他最著名貢獻之一為抗戰時期組成「西
北藝術文物考察團」進行藝術研究。吳冠中曾就讀杭州國立藝專，因
此稱他為師，其他諸家亦尊稱先生。
