A SPINACH-GREEN JADE DOUBLE-GOURD
FORM WASHER
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
The washer is carved and pierced in the form of a well-hollowed
double-gourd growing from a gnarled branch sprouting nine
smaller gourds, flowers and elaborate leafy vines, with a butterfly
resting on the bottom side. The softly polished stone is of
characteristic semi-translucent mossy green tone with paler and
darker mottling, black flecks and veiny striations.
