carved in the form of a gui bi tablet form, the bi disc polished
as the grinding surface and the top of the gui sceptre forming
the recessed inkwell, the reverse carved with an inscription on
the acquisition of the piece and signed Mei Shanqian

A SET OF TWO INKSTICKS
EARLY QING DYNASTY
of rectangular and cylindrical form respectively, both carved
with inscriptions against a ground of scrolling clouds,
the inscriptions can be translated to ‘inkstick made and
inspected by Cao Sugong (1615-1689)’ and ‘medicinal inkstick
respectfully made and inspected by Cao Yunya’ respectively,
decorated overall with gold pigments
