AN UNUSUAL CELADON JADE ‘IMMORTAL’
INCENSE BURNER AND COVER
QING DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY
of compressed globular form raised on three cabriole legs
issuing from lion masks, flanked by two horned mythical-beast
handles suspending loose rings, each side carved with figural
scenes depicting an immortal holding a fly whisk and trailing
an ox, the cover surmounted by two lions in openwork, the
smoothly polished stone of buff-celadon colour
19 cm, 7½ in.

Collection of Edward T. Chow (1910-1980), and thence by
descent in the family.
