A VERY RARE OPAQUE IVORY-
COLORED JADE BIRD-HEADED
ORNAMENT
NEOLITHIC PERIOD, LIANGZHU
CULTURE, 3RD-2ND MILLENNIUM BC
The ornament is carved with a bird’s head
with prominent crown-like crest above a
simply rendered body with subtle notches
at the base of the back to suggest wings
opposite the chest with tubular opening that
connects to the tubular opening in the base.

mottled taupe and ivory color suffused with
russet and buff-white veining.
