BLUE AND OF THE PERIOD (1821-1850) another, from the estate of Ambassador and Mrs. Walter Howe, was

The tapering ovoid body is decorated with two bands of composite
the similar blue and white hu-form vase of comparable size, but with
floral scroll above a band of waves, and the shoulders are flanked by a
Qianlong mark, in the Nanjing Museum, illustrated in The Official Kiln
pair of masks in relief, suspending fixed rings.

10 in. (25.4 cm.) high another Qianlong-marked example sold at Christie’s Hong Kong, 31
May 2017, lot 3201.

The shape of this vase, as well as the bow-string bands and molded
mask handles, are based on ancient bronze hu jars from the Han
dynasty (206 BC – AD 220).
