Bronze yan steamer Among vessels in the Dayangzhou find, only this
four-legged steamer (yan) 1 surpasses the large

weight 78.5 (172 A) fangding in height and weight. It too was placed
near the coffin, and like the fangding was removed
Transitional Period (c. 1400-1200 BCE)
by peasants before proper excavation began. Both
From Dayangzhou, Xin'gan, Jiangxi Province
of these vessels would have towered over other
Jiangxi Provincial Museum, Nanchang bronze and ceramic objects on an altar or in the
tomb chamber. Both were made to appear thickly
cast (in particular, the loop handles and rim of
the steamer), and both display animals on their
