FOUR SATSUMA BOWLS
Meiji (1868-1912) or Taisho (1912-1926) era,
early 20th century
Each decorated in enamels and gilt,
comprising a hexagonal bowl embellished
inside and outside with densely clustered and
overlapping chrysanthemums and peonies,
signed on the base Tashiro kore o tsukuru,
7cm x 19.1cm (2¾in x 7½in); two lobed-
rimmed small bowls, one similarly decorated
as the hexagonal bowl, signed on the base
Dai Nihon Nikko tsukuru, 5cm x 10.6cm
(2in x 4 1/8in), the other with clumps of
Chinese bellflowers and wild chrysanthemums
flanking the banks of a meandering stream,
signed on the base Satsuma, 4.7cm x
12.2cm (1 13/16in x 4¾in); the fourth
decorated in the interior well with two
geese flying above chrysanthemums and
pampas grass, the outside with clumps
of chrysanthemums, signed on the base
