A MOTHER-OF-PEARL INLAID BLACK LACQUER TABLE
17th/18th century
The circular top cut with a six-sectioned floriform edge that repeats on the base supporting
the six conforming cabriole legs joined with graceful aprons curving upward to the reticulated
waist, an elaborate program of iridescent shell inlay into the black lacquer ground including
scholarly figures in garden setting across the top and along the aprons, intricately cut diaper
patterns and flower heads on leafy tendrils.
