Zhang Longyan was born into a Qing scholar’s family, and began
studying calligraphy at an early age. For four years, he was the dean of
the College of Art at Chinese Culture University (中國文化大學美術研究
所所長) in Taipei, Taiwan. He likely befriended Kung-Jen Chu, to whom
this calligraphy is dedicated, while both worked for the United Nations.
