100 | A RARE FULLY ARTICULATED IVORY
AND BONE OKIMONO OF A DRAGON
                     Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912)

The fully articulated body consists of over one hundred segments
and is made from ivory and bone. The body of the dragon (tatsu)
is elongated and slender with many scales, like a snake, and with
sharp dorsal spikes. The four limbs have ivory flames emanating
from them and the head is expressive, with sharp horns, glaring
eyes of mother of pearl, a flaming beard and a movable tongue.

                     LENGTH total 83.5 cm
Condition: Very good, complete and original condition. Some
segments have been reattached, as would be expected from a
piece like this. Some segments are more rigid than others.
                     Provenance: British collection.
