A SMALL GE-TYPE WATER COUPE
Qing Dynasty
the small vessel of globular shape with short waisted neck and
covered all over in a greyish-cream glaze with a double crackle,
supported on three short nipple feet exposing a red clay body, the
larger grey crackle interspersed with a smaller but denser crackle of
pale brown tone.

Compare the small celadon-glazed censer of closely related form
in the Qing Court collection, illustrated in The Complete Collection
of Treasures of the Palace Museum: Monochrome Porcelain, Hong
Kong, 1999, p. 224, no. 202, described as imitating Guan glaze from
the Ming dynasty.
For a small ge-type brush washer of the Yuan or early Ming dynasty
displaying the matrix of darker ‘iron-wire’ crackle with ‘golden’
threads so beloved of this ware, and beautifully re-created in our later
Qing example, see Sotheby’s, 4 November 2020, lot 183.
