A CELADON AND RUSSET JADE MYTHICAL BEAST
MING DYNASTY, 17TH CENTURY

The animal is carved recumbent with its legs tucked underneath and its tail sweeping along its back leg.
Its ears are ficked back and its bulging eyes are carved above a ruyi-shaped snout. The mane, backbone,
and tail are detailed with fne incisions. The stone is of a celadon tone with pale and russet inclusions.
