A very rare pair of Imperial famille rose
ruby-ground sgraffiato medallion bowls
Jiaqing seal marks and of the period
Each exquisitely enamelled on the exterior with four medallions, each
containing an elegant grouping of precious objects, including various
vases and lanterns, a jade belt buckle, a gilt incense burner, a ruyi,
and a vase simulating twin bamboo shafts, the four medallions each
divided by a formal floral arrangement of full and half-blossoming lotus
on scrolling leafy stems, all on a rich ruby-ground finely incised with a
scroll pattern, the interior of each bowl brightly painted in underglaze
blue with four different lanterns each suspending four tassels
surrounding the central well painted with a symmetrical design of four
flowers growing between four butterflies suspending beaded strings
and ruyi-heads around a central sectioned octagon, box.
Each 10.7cm (5 3/4in) diam. (3).
