A Chinese porcelain pen box in the Dreesmann
Collection had this same rare decoration after a Mughal $5,000-8,000
miniature inside (sold Christie’s London, 10 April
2002, lot 466). The scene was also on a snuff box sold
Christie’s London, 11 May 2004, lot 89. No other
examples seem to be recorded; perhaps these were
commissioned by a diplomat or other European resident
of India.
