A PALE GREENISH-WHITE JADE HORSE HEAD A SMALL PALE GREENISH-GREY JADE FIGURE
OF A MYTHICAL BEAST
The head is carved with open mouth, prominent eyes, pricked ears, and
MING DYNASTY (1368-1644)
hogged mane, the base of the neck has a recess. The stone has yellowish,
opaque veining and mottling. The beast shown seated facing forward with its jaws open has a ribbed
chest, long horns, a segmented mane and an upswept tail. The semi-
3Ω in. (9 cm.) high
translucent stone has russet markings.
