A LONGQUAN CELADON-GLAZED BUCKET-
SHAPED WATER JAR
15th century
Thickly potted with deep rounded sides, incised with
vertical ribs imitating a wooden bucket, all beneath a
handle simulating a gate, covered overall with a sea-
green glaze except for a circle within the foot rim
exposing the burnt orange during the firing process,
with a two-part hardwood cover, Japanese wood
box. 12cm (4 3/4in) high (4).

The rectangular screen moulded on a fixed platform
flanked by shaped, standing spandrels, moulded to
one side with a pair of taper holders, covered with
a glaze of sea-green colour, Japanese wood box.
