A BLUE AND WHITE ‘MASTER OF THE ROCKS’ JAR
Circa 1660
Painted in vivid shades of underglaze blue with a continuous
landscape scattered with trees and shrubs, with a scholar seated on
a sampan steered by a fisherman along a gorge, amidst craggy rocks
expertly rendered in ‘Master of the Rocks’ style, appreciating the
drooping tree branches borne on the cliffside, a further scholar seated
in contemplation on a rocky cliff beside leafy trees, shadowed by tall
mountain peaks at the background, wood cover.
