A SLIP-DECORATED BROWN-GLAZED
‘LOTUS POND’ MEIPING
MING DYNASTY, WANLI PERIOD
elegantly proportioned, the body rising from
a recessed base to a gently rounded shoulder
and short trumpet neck with an everted rim,
decorated in white slip with lightly incised
details with cranes amongst sprays of ß owering
lotus blossoms issuing from large lotus leaves
and leafy waterweeds on each side, against an
iridescent co$ ee-brown glaze, the foot ring and
base applied with a clear glaze
Height 10¼ in., 26 cm
