A SANCAI-GLAZED POTTERY TRIPOD JAR A PAIR OF LARGE SANCAI-GLAZED POTTERY
TANG DYNASTY (AD 618-907) GUARDIAN FIGURES
The globular body is supported on three claw feet and is covered in a splashed- TANG DYNASTY (AD 618-907)
glaze of amber, green and cream color, which stops short of the unglazed base. Each fgure is shown standing on a recumbent bull supported on a pierced
7¿ in. (18 cm.) diam. rockwork base, with one hand on the hip and the other hand clenched to hold
a spear, now missing. Each is artfully decorated in glazes of cream, green
$6,000-8,000 and amber color, while the head is left unglazed, and the face with severe
expression has painted details.
