     AN IMPERIAL EDICT
     QIANLONG-GUANGXU PERIOD (1736-1908)
     The edict is written on silk brocade and is mounted as a handscroll, reading from left to
     right in Manchu and repeated from right to left in Chinese characters, bearing inscriptions
     corresponding to the 30th year of Qianlong (1766), 60th year of Qianlong (1796), 22nd year of
     Jiaqing (1818), and the 1st year of Guangxu (1875), all stamped with seal impressions.

     158 in. x 12 in. (401.3 x 30.5 cm.)

     PROVENANCE

     Carl I. Wheat (1892-1966) Collection, Washington D.C., before 1943

     This edict, which dated first to the 30th year of the Qianlong reign, records the Emperor
     conferring the military title of Yun qiwei upon Chende’s decease to his son Xianning, a title
     which should be passed on indefinitely within the family. The inheritance occurred again
     and is recorded in this edict in the 60th year of Qianlong, 22nd year of Jiaqing, and the 1st
     year of Guangxu, to Changchun, Puxing and Ronglin respectively.

     清乾隆至光緒 織錦誥命

     此誥命記載了乾隆三十年,皇帝下旨因成德病故,其兒子咸寧世襲雲騎尉爵位,此後
     於乾隆六十年、嘉慶二十二年及光緒元年, 其後代長春、普興及榮林續承襲此爵位。
