TWO MOULDED AND INSCRIBED YAOZHOU CONICAL BOWLS
NORTHERN SONG DYNASTY (960-1127)
The first bowl is moulded with a single spray of peony, the blossom upholding a plaque
inscribed with the characters Da guan, ‘flourishing’, covered with a glaze of deep greyish-
olive tone; the other bowl is moulded with a phoenix grasping in its beak a large lotus spray
enclosing a cartouche inscribed with the characters Gao Jia, ‘Gao Family’, applied with a
glaze of deep sea-green tone.

Compare to a Yaozhou bowl sharing the same Da guan mark and design, sold at Christie’s
Hong Kong, 28 October 2002, lot 687. A Yaozhou shard bearing these two characters is
illustrated in Sekai Toji Zenshu, vol. 12, Tokyo, 1977, p. 221, fig. 76. Another bowl, moulded
with the same Gao Jia inscription and design, was sold at Sotheby’s New York, 30 March
2006, lot 38.
北宋 耀州窯印牧丹紋「大觀」笠式盌、耀州窯印鳳啣蓮紋「高家」笠式盌
可參考一件紋飾及造型相同的耀州盌,同樣書「大觀」款,2002年10月28日於香港佳
士得拍賣,拍品687。另見一耀州窯殘片,上書「大觀」款,著錄於1977年東京出版
《世界陶磁全集》,221頁,圖76號。亦可參考一件書「高家」款、紋飾相同的耀州
盌,2006年3月30日於紐約佳士得拍賣,拍品38號。
