INCENSE BURNER
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
the rounded sides rising from three tubular legs to a galleried
rim, set with a pair of upright loop handles, decorated with
silver-wire inlay with stylised archaistic scrolls below key-
fret bands along the rim and the handles, the domed cover
pierced with quatrefoil cartouches and surmounted by a
Buddhist lion finial, Japanese wood box

the bombe body rising from a tall splayed foot to a flared
rim, flanked by a pair of animal mask loop handles, the
exterior cast in low relief with stylised taotie masks reserved
on a leiwen ground, framed above and below with bands of
archaistic mythical beasts interrupted by vertical flanges
or bovine heads, silver-wire inlaid wood cover, wood box
inscribed by Zouroku Hata in 1949 (Showa Tsuchinoto Ushi)
