A CARVED POLYCHROME LACQUER
‘IMMORTALS’ BOX AND COVER
QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795)
The cover is finely carved to the top through thick layers of
lacquer to the yellow ground, with six Daoist immortals and their
attendants at leisure in a wooded landscape, amongst pine trees,
rockwork and a pavilion in the distance. The box is carved to the
underside with a central medallion enclosing a peony bloom.
