A SPINACH-GREEN JADE SNUFF BOTTLE
1820-1880
The bottle of pear form is carved from stone sufused with opaque
green and black mottling throughout. One side is delicately incised
and gilded with a poem by Jia Dao (AD 799-843) reading: “Under
the pines I ask the boy. He says ‘My Master’s gone to gather herbs.
I only know he’s on this mountain. But the clouds are too deep to
know where.”
