A LARGE SILVER INLAID COPPER ALLOY FIGURE OF AN this arhat and a large portrait of Panthaka at the Kumbum stupa in
ARHAT Gyantse. Panthaka is the great scholar among the arhats. Initially
TIBET, CIRCA 16TH CENTURY an advanced Vedic specialist, he brought many of his followers to
Himalayan Art Resources item no.2300 Buddhism and converted even the gods of Trayastrimsa heaven. This
10 3/4 in. (27.3 cm) high heavy and commanding bronze portrays him as a sagacious elder, his
eyes embellished with silver as if praising his vast wisdom.
