This portrait and its brother (lot 3216) originated from a large set of 84 Christie’s, New York, 17 September 1997, lot 135
mahasiddhas, adapted from the 11th-century Sanskrit text, Praise to
the Eighty-four Mahasiddha. Their inscriptions also indicate that they
were cast at ‘Nyug’, which Dinwiddie approximates in Tsang, and then
displayed within the great assembly hall of an unknown monastery.
