It is extremely rare to find a pair of Imperial cloisonne enamel
incense burners modelled with elephant trunk handles and
legs, and with Qianlong reign marks. An individual incense
burner of the period of similar form, but unmarked, was sold
in our Hong Kong rooms, 8th October 2007, lot 1308.
See another related incense burner with similar elephant
head handles and feet and a recumbent elephant on the
cover supporting a vase, included in the exhibition Tributes
from Guangdong to the Qing Court, Art Gallery, The Chinese
University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, 1987, cat. no. 34.
