An unusual famille jaune porcelain-inlaid
four-leaf hardwood screen
19th Century
Each leaf inlaid with five porcelain panels in a vertical column, the
top piece fan-shaped, the next lobed, the third a lobed square, the
fourth circular and the last a straight-sided square, one circular panel
with a qilin prancing over waves and breathing out a wisp supporting
two bundles of books, and another two panels with two cranes
wading amidst lotus and another crane in flight above, the remaining
panels variously enamelled with birds on floral branches issuing from
rockwork, all set within reticulated wooden borders.
Each leaf 41.5cm wide x 224.5cm high (16¼in wide x 88½in high) (4).
