A cloisonné enamel flaring vase, gu
Qianlong
The bulbous central section enamelled with four pink and red
lotus blossoms separated by blue squared scrolls, raised on a tall
spreading foot with four downwards lappets containing stylised leafy
fronds alternating with four lotus blossoms on foliate scrolls above a
band of ruyi-head at the foot, the flaring neck similarly enamelled with
upwards lappets and lotus scrolls beneath a band of ruyi-head at
the gilt rim, the interior of the neck also with four lotus blossoms on
foliate scrolls between blue squared scrolls.

Qianlong
Each with a rounded central section enamelled with four lotus
blossoms on a continuous foliate meander beneath a band of ruyi
head, the spreading foot with four stiff downward-pointing lappets of
square scrolls divided by four lotus scrolls, the flaring neck with two
bands of keyfret at the bottom beneath similar square scroll lappets
divided by lotus scroll, the interior with a band of ruyi head above
floral scrolls.
Each 36.2cm (14¼in) high (2).

清乾隆 掐絲琺瑯纏枝蓮紋觚一對
Provenance: Sir Robert Ludwig Mond (1836-1938) and thence by
family descent.
Born in Lancashire, Sir Robert Ludwig Mond was a chemist,
industrialist and archaeologist, and also a founding trustee of the
Royal Ontario Museum. Amongst his collection was a Chinese library
of 40,000 volumes purchased in Beijing in the early 1930s, which he
subsequently donated to the Royal Ontario Museum.
